Make A Deck For Your House By Yourself

If you own a house and have some space left in your yard, then you might have thought of making a deck. A lot of things may have stopped you like expenses and time. Well, it’s not an expensive and long-term work. Now you can build a deck for your house by yourself if you how to do it properly. You just need to get a pencil and paper to start off.

Decide the size of your deck as per the size of your house. It won’t be looking good to have a small deck in a big house and a large size deck in a small house. so you have to make sure that the size of your deck suits the size of your house. Gather all local permits, so you don’t have to face any unwanted problem and occurrence furthermore. Make a list of materials you need to build the deck. An expert will always advise you to choose the best material. So you should justify between materials and products before you purchase them. Materials relative to deck building are plain wood, concrete deck piers, gravel, water seal, paint and other small stuff

Start the work by placing deck footings. Decks lower to the ground looks more beautiful than the usual ones. Place the footings by keeping a measured distance from each other. You have to make sure that all the footings are on the same level. Because an unleveled footing can damage your platform.

After you have placed your footings now you should start to cut and ley your joists. It is a better idea to measure before you cut each joist. Each of the joists should have the similar size and try not to keep any difference. Mark the place where your deck is going to build. Remove the siding where you are going to mount the ledger board. After removing the siding attach the ledger to the same place you have removed siding from. Once you are done with that install the opposite beam atop the posts then install the rim joists. Before you attach the plank with joists you should waterproof them. Either the planks will suck water. After that screw the planks, but make sure that you are not using too screws. That will make it look bad. You should take the help of a second person to get a hand and also finish the work sooner. At last add wood at the end of your deck to give it a finishing look. You should spray some grass or weed killer before you make the platform. It won’t look good to see grass or weed coming up through the deck.

After you have Completed the steps above you should paint the deck. Choose a light color. It looks better to use a light color as its outside of the house. When the paint gets dry you are done with a beautiful deck, which looks perfect with your house.

Easy Way To Remove Snow

If you live in a place snow falls, then you might know what happens when it snowfalls too much than usual. It becomes a big issue when it snows too much. Everything gets covered with deep snow which is hard to remove. Government and organizations will remove snow from the road. But they are not going to remove snows from your lawn and sidewalk, you have to do that by yourself. Well, removing snow is not a hard work though. You have to use the proper method and it’s the easiest work to do.

An icy sidewalk can be dangerous for your family and neighbors. Cleaning ice from the sidewalk which is outside your house is a quick method to remove snow. Many cities have rules like this, but Ogden Snow Removal always tracks and stays abreast of snow removal laws for each city is operates in.

There are many ways to remove snow or ice. Like, using deicer can make this work easier. But you have to choose the product wisely. There are many deicers which can damage your skin, lawn, pets, and sidewalk. So before you buy deicer you have to check if these have any side effects. Deicer is easy to use. you have to sprinkle a little amount of deicer per square feet. Deicer melts ice and makes a wreath inside. so ice breaks into little shapes and they can be moved easily. You can easily remove ice by using a normal shovel. Using a snow shovel can make it easier to remove snow. Keep spreading some salt to prevent melting before you remove them.

There are many other ways to remove ice. Boil water till its warm enough, then fill a gallon with the water. Then add dish soap to the water any dish soap will work. You don’t have to buy a special one. Then finish the mixture with rubbing alcohol. shake the gallon a little bit. But there should not be any bubble in the mixture. Pour the mixture onto the ice while the water is still warm. It will help the ice to break down. then you can easily shovel the ice and remove them.

On the other hand, if you use snow melt mat then it will be the easiest work to do. All you need to do is just place the mats on the ice. As the mats are electric it starts to heat up. it helps to melt the ice and makes it easier to remove. And it’s within budget too. Using magnesium chloride can also help you. Similarly, you can use rock salt and calcium chloride too. they have almost the same impact on the ice. It might sound funny, but you can use ” Kitty Litter” to melt the snow.

These methods will come to help if you don’t have a heavy-duty machine or if you don’t have much time. These are almost the easiest way to remove ice or snow.

In these times it seems like the snow is getting heavier and heavier, or I am just getting older. Please use these common-sense ways to avoid injuring yourself removing your snow.

Below are some of the best roofs that can be ideal for adverse winter conditions:

  • Composite shingles: in addition to ensuring your house is warm and also comfortable, composite shingles will provide the much-needed enforcement to make your house withstand the intensity of heavy snowfall. You will no longer be afraid that your roof will leak or fall apart as the winter weather intensifies.

They can be used even on steep sloped buildings

They are easy to install

They are available in various colors and different sizes as well

They can be walked on or bear heavy weight like a snow buildup without getting damaged

Composite shingle can be destroyed by strong wind

They do not offer protection from the solar heat and may also be ruined by solar radiation.

They do not last as long as tiles, slates, or metals

  • Asphalt roofing; Asphalt roofs are affordable and can bear the strength of high winds, heavy snow, and a freezing climate. These shingle can be installed with ease and unlike composite shingles, they will withstand heavy winds.

They are easy to install

You can easily place them over an existing roof which will save time and reduce the cost of installation

They are available in various colors

These roofs will be able to last for twenty years

The shingle can easily be broken by tree branches leading to leakage

The granules which protect the shingles may be destroyed by hailstorm making the roof weak.

It can be destroyed by sun’s radiation which makes the edges curl which may allow water to get into the house.

If you intend to live in a house for over twenty years, Asphalt roofs may not be the best as they only last for twenty years.

  • Cement tiles: these tiles can bear the effects of heavy snow and will also offer protection against fire. The tiles are made of sand, cement and other pigments which make them very durable. As a result of the heavy weight of these roofs, you must ensure that the foundation of the house is strong enough to bear the weight of the tiles.

Highly durable and will not require any repair

Concrete tiles are affected by heavy rainfall as they will take in water making them stain and get mildew growth

  • Metal roofs: these are durable and can bear the strength of strong winds and heavy snow. The snow will simply slide from the roof surface and there will be no chance of leaks or formation of an icicle. As a result of the snow guards, the ice will not immediately slide from the roof and the insulated metals will ensure that your house remains warm even as winter continues.

Metal roofs last for as long as the house is in existence

A metal roof is lighter in weight than a concrete roof

They are easy to install

These roofs are resistant to fire

Metal conducts heat and the saved energy will make the house warm even when the sun goes down.

They are very expensive to install

The effect of a falling object on the roof or even rainfall causes a lot of noise

Metal roofs may develop a dent if hit by hailstones

The metal may fade or have the paint peel off

You do not have to be afraid of the winter if you are armed with the right roof over your head. As seen above, it is even possible to install a roof on top of an existing one which will save up on the time and the cost of roofing. Prepare in advance so that you will not have to rush when you notice your roof is falling off and the winter weather is at its peak.
